Though a remake of an old Fire Emblem title, Shadows of Valentia provided an uncommon experience that laid the groundwork for the success of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It retains the core elements of a Fire Emblem game, but its experiments with new mechanics pushed the boundaries of what a Fire Emblem game could be. Though most games in the series reimagined the features of its predecessors, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia managed to simultaneously pay homage to the game’s history while breaking the mold in unexpected ways. However, among its many historical titles, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia–the last Fire Emblem title for the 3DS that released five years ago–flew under the radar of far too many fans. The series almost saw its end before the success of Fire Emblem: Awakening, which resurrected the series into a world-wide sensation. Though the franchise has been around for 30 years, it has only been international for 20 years, and has only been widely-popular for 10. If you plan on having another villager fill the Mage role, then you might want to consider making Kliff a soldier.The history of Fire Emblem is fraught with record highs and perilous lows. If he weren't such an excellent mage, Soldier would no doubt be his best class. This is both amusing and effective, allowing him to endure all manner of attacks thanks to his base resistance, and perhaps double attack in return. Kliff is almost certainly best as a mage.Īs a Soldier, Kliff can be quite fast even as his armor thickens as he promotes, ultimately ending with him as a fast tank. This allows him to tank incoming enemy hits and counterattack, perhaps twice, against their probably low resistance. Furthermore, as his defense and speed grow, he can fill a very rare and very powerful role, which is that of a magical frontliner. These include spells that are cheap and fast, but weak, as well as powerful, but slow and costly, in both the short range and long range catergories, giving him a more complete toolset than the other villagers, and even most other Mages in the game. He learns a very wide variety of offensive spells, far wider than the other villagers. These are important to consider when choosing his class.Īs a Mage, Kliff excels in all aspects perhaps not at first, but as the game progresses he becomes the best Mage among the villagers. However, despite his low bases outside of those two stats, Kliff has a good defense growth rate (40%) and an amazing speed growth rate (60%), meaning that he may grow into a unit that cannot be double attacked by most units on top of not taking much damage. Once Kliff reaches level 3, you can promote him to one of several classes, including Cavalier, Soldier, Mercenary, Archer, or Mage.Īlthough Kliff has pretty bad base stats in general, he does have outstanding base luck and resistance, the latter of which is especially good 8 resistance is nothing to laugh at even towards the end of the game, which is good, because Kliff's resistance is not ever going to go up on its own. The base stats below are based on Kliff's appearance as an adult in Act 1 his stats in the Prologue are not listed.
